Classes
Mastodon Ice Arena offers supplemental skating skills sessions to help you build a stronger foundation and a greater love for the sport of skating. Whether you are a hockey player or a figure skater, we have the tools to help you succeed! Our skating classes are offered in 10-week, 45-minute sessions of dedicated instruction.
How do I know what class I should take?
Our classes are 45 minutes long and are typically 10 weeks. We have shorter sessions around the holidays.
Drop-in classes are not always available. Check with the front desk.
Classes: Designed by Skate with Jen. Requirements to pass for a level is posted in the respective class. The sessions are designed to get your skater or hockey player the foundational skills they need to succeed.
Hockey players will need to take the skating series classes as a prerequisite for the hockey series. Hockey IQ is the class to get them started on positioning, plays, shooting and more. Hockey series is a prerequisite for Hockey IQ.
Legends League: For the players coming out of hockey series- this session focuses on both skating and hockey skills but more game / practice oriented.
Mastodon True Development: Sessions are a combination of skating skills and hockey skills. Players will follow drills designed for agility, deception, speed and power while receiving IMMEDIATE feedback on skating.
Sessions are preparing for teams for the 2026-2027 season.
Session options for True Development are drop in ($50 per class), the month ($40 per class) or the whole session- through May 2026.
Skating Series
Split into 3 levels. The sessions are 10 weeks long. Your skater will be taught at the level they are progressing at. We believe time and thorough instruction is how good skaters become great!
This series is a prerequisite for the Hockey Skating Series and Hockey IQ Series.
Skating Series includes Skater Tots- Tiny Tusks and Skating Series 1-3
Hockey Series
This series builds off of the Skating Series. You have learned your skating fundamentals already, but now you must do all of the elements with a stick and puck. Skill retention and passing are the same level as without a puck because hockey’s no fun if your skating is struggling!
Your skater must be one Skating Series class ahead of the Hockey Skating Class.
Hockey Series includes Hockey Series 1-3 and Hockey IQ Class
Adult Series
Whether you’re a beginner figure skater wanting to learn fundamentals and edges, or hockey player wanting to add some skill for adult league- we have you covered!
Masta-Den
Coaches and Skaters: be sure to visit our Synthetic Room with approximately 280 square feet of synthetic ice for lessons or practice time while you get in the zone. Space boasts Bluetooth capabilities so you can practice with your playlist. Video replay is coming soon.
The room can host up to 3 skaters at a time for practice, individual training, coaches lesson time and goalie session ice. The room is $10 per 30 min – up to 3 total skaters in the room. Coaches are not included in the skater count. Synthetic room has training tools, net tutors, passers and more. See the front desk for training aids.
Coaches can take up to 4 skaters in the Masta-Den Synthetic room. Coaches- send your current liability insurance to info@mastodonicearena.com
Come practice with your coach, or bring some friends and make it a skills session!
Player of the week gains 1 hour access to the Masta-Den with up to 3 friends.
This room can be rented for parties. Ask an associate, call us at 740-899-4ICE, or send us an email!
Host Your Next Party With Us!
Golf Party Package
Party rental is 2 hours of unlimited play on one course. $10 per person up to 20 people. For parties of 20 or more, please contact us.
$50 rental fee for the Pergola, Pavillion (roof cover) and Gazebo (roof cover).
You are welcome to decorate 45 minutes before the event and you can bring your own food and beverages. No alcoholic beverages are permitted nor animals on the
property.
There is a 50% deposit required at the time of shelter reservation
with full payment due by the day of rental. Refunds will be given two weeks in
advance of reservation. No refunds will be issued within 13 days of event.
Skating Party Package
Ice rental is $290/hour for up to 15 people. We currently do not offer skate rental. You will need to bring your own skates. Helmets are suggested but not required.
We offer a party room with the hourly ice rental. Additional party room rental is $50/hour. You can bring your own food and drink. No alcoholic beverages are permitted.

Skate Sharpening
Our Skate Sharpener (Brian), also known as the Skate Ninja, has 30+ year’s experience sharpening hockey and figure skates. Skates can typically be sharpened by the end of the night or you can pick them up the next day.

*We do not rent skates. We believe having your own equipment is one of the fastest ways to get better.

Perfect Your Skating with Open Freestyle!
A time designed to perfect form. Freestyle skaters are allowed to practice without a coach. Hockey players are allowed to work on skating skills with their coach. They are not allowed to practice outside of lessons. No full Gear, no sticks. Coaches insurance must be on file with the office. 30 min- $6
No coaches fee.
